There is no other profession that has many variations in titles than that of compensation consultant.  Lawyers have different titles such as attorneys, barrister and Esquire and they are frequently used, sometimes interchangeably in the field of law.  If used together, they are considered a redundancy but, by definition, each has different meaning.  In general, an attorney is a person who is a member of the legal profession, qualified and licensed to represent a client in court.  They can act in behalf of the client and plead or defend a case in legal proceedings.  Literally, attorney means a person acting for another as an agent or deputy.  They are trained in the field of law and offers advice and aid on legal matters.  Since a lawyer also represents clients in various legal instances and conducts suits in court proceedings, the term has expanded to overlap the definition of attorney.   In some country, more job titles are used in the field of law like barristers and solicitors.  Barristers are those who usually perform trial work, especially in the higher courts, and do not deal directly with clients, but a solicitor on the other hand, speak with clients, prepare documents and may appear as an advocate in a lower court.  And sometimes, attorneys use the title Esquire.   It follows the attorneys full name and often oftentimes use as an abbreviation, Esq.  Esquire is an honorary title with little meaning today and is even somewhat controversial.    Generally, lawyers must be licensed in the jurisdictions where they practice and may choose to specialize like a compensation attorney.
